As we were working on the game, we originally wanted one of the characters to fight hand-to-hand by punching other enemies, and had him hitting and juggling the enemies in the air. "We had previously worked on a short game for Lionsgate Films based on the Expendables movie, which was designed like a classic retro platformer with each character wielding a different weapon. The hit points are earned by hitting an Enemigo (10 points for each hit) and juggling him while he is dying (the point for each hit depends on the type of the Enemigo). The scoring depends on how many of the challenges are done (500 points for each challenge done - if all 5 challenges are done, then 500 * 5 = 2500 points), how many of the treasures found (500 points for each treasure found), the amount of money gotten, earned badges (each badge has a point between 150 and 750.) and the hit points. Money is used to upgrade McCoy on punching, swinging, shooting, throwing, and whipping up to level 6 after finishing an area or in the menu of the game.Īt the end of each area, McCoy opens a wide chest and one of the pieces of the map for the home of the emerald comes out. The values of them in order are 1, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50. The money might be a bronze coin, a silver coin, a golden coin, a ruby, an emerald, or a diamond. Each weapon is different than another in its power (darts and bazooka, for example). New types of weapons are introduced in all of the areas except Emerald Shrine, which is the 12th and the last area of the game. There are totally 59 types of weapons that McCoy can use in the entire game (including his punches). When an Enemigo is killed, he drops his money and sometimes his weapon that can be taken and used when McCoy kneels on it. The game has 12 areas and each area has 5 challenges to do and 5 treasures to find, which are scattered in the area. While the arrow buttons make him walk and aim if he has any throwing weapon like sheriff badges or daggers, the A button makes him jump and the S button makes him punch or use his weapon if he has any. The only playable character is Cactus McCoy. The curse broken, McCoy successfully frees himself from stone, and leaves, going on another adventure. At the very last minute, when almost his entire body gets petrified, the emerald falls out of his open hand, onto the statue. But unfortunately, he has begun to petrify. With Hex Hatfield gotten rid of at the end of an epic battle, McCoy rushes to place the Thorned Emerald in its place on the statue. Subsequently, he orders all of his goons to capture Cactus McCoy. Seeing this, Hatfield gets furious, mistakenly believing that the now defected McCoy has stolen both the Thorned Emerald and his money. Meanwhile, the shadowy figure is revealed to be one of Hatfield's thugs ( the Yellow Enemigo), who informs his boss of McCoy's transformation. Having understood the situation, he embarks on his journey to collect all the pieces of the map, in order to find where the emerald belongs. Speaking in rhyme, he says that he too was cursed by the Thorned Emerald, and that if he doesn't return the emerald to its final place of home, McCoy will get petrified (turned into stone). Shortly after that, a ghost named Popoca manifests from the smoke from the campfire, startling McCoy. He slowly transforms into a walking cactus, with green skin, spines on his body, and all. Later that night while camping, he wakes up, having a strange feeling over himself, caused by the emerald. Nonetheless, he takes the emerald from its place and leaves. It's on a curiously shaped stone pedestal, the words "BEWARE THE CURSE" written on the wall behind it. After a long and dangerous journey (while unknowingly being followed by a shadowy figure), he finds the emerald. He provides McCoy a map to the Thorned Emerald, as well as his payment in advance. Crime boss Hex Hatfield summons his employee McCoy, and orders him to find the Thorned Emerald.
